Oily skin is often thicker than dry or normal skin and feels greasy all over. It tends to develop acne and inflammation, and is frequently prone to blackheads, blemishes and clogged pores. This skin type looks shiny and in extreme cases, suffers from acne especially at a young age. If the skin becomes oily an hour or so after cleansing, it is characteristically an oily skin type. The greasiness of oily skin prevents make-up to hold and last.

In normal and combination skin, the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) tends to suffer from excessive oiliness, while the cheeks are usually normal to dry. This skin type is characterised by large and sometimes clogged pores in the oilier areas. If by midday the skin shows oiliness in the T-zone and is oil-free on the cheeks, it is characteristically combination skin. The skin type suffers from lack of protection in certain areas.

The main cause of oily skin is excessive, low-quality sebum production, caused by dysfunctioning of the sebaceous glands. As a result oily skin, in spite of its thickness, lacks protection and is constantly exposed to external aggressions, causing it to “order” more and more sebum. This abundant low-quality sebum burdens the unprotected skin, sometimes with a virtually toxic effect.
